Achieving High-Quality Health Care

By: Kalyana Lee

The effective maintenance and improvement of an individual's health and well-being are referred to as healthcare. This is in the form of prevention, treatment, or cure of medical issues provided by clinical and health professionals such as doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and others. Members of society must be given access to the resources and opportunities of healthcare. Not only is it essential to receive healthcare, but it also must be ensured that it is provided in a high-quality and successful manner. Otherwise, many people would be at significant risk.

Health regulations and restrictions are social and economic factors that may affect a community's access to proper healthcare. However, governments and medical institutions unite to establish a particular goal for developing high-quality healthcare. The most appropriate definition of high-quality healthcare is a treatment that is effective, safe, patient-centered, prompt, efficient, equitable, and administered by respectful professionals with proper communication and decision-making skills. ¹ According to the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, some general healthcare objectives include:

  1. Increasing the proportion of children and adolescents who receive care in a medical home.

  2. Increasing the proportion of adults who have had a comprehensive eye exam in the last two years.

  3. Increasing the use of medical products associated with companion diagnostics.

  4. Increasing the ability of primary care and behavioral health professionals to provide more high-quality care to patients.

² It is most practical to create action plans after thorough analysis and research of potential results. Additionally, one must be entirely dedicated to turning projects into actions only to accomplish health standards for society.

Every human on the planet has the right to the highest attainable standard of health. As mentioned earlier, restrictions such as poverty and conflict have negatively impacted the right to high-quality health care. This is because they do not have the financial support to afford proper healthcare, or there are not enough opportunities issued by medical establishments, social enterprises, or even governmental units. The risks of not attaining healthcare contributions can be harmful to a person's situation and even life. It has been reported that multiple children and pregnant women in Syria have been unable to get hold of medical supplies and resources due to the country's conflicts which resulted in refugees.³ In addition, some countries were unable to treat victims of COVID-19 due to the total capacity of medical centers and lack of staff, hospital beds, machines, and materials. An operative solution for this problem is to further encompass a healthcare environment by constructing more physician offices, laboratories, and centers, compromising a more productive patient system, and allowing more health insurance companies.⁴ Since healthcare is related to science and the entire economy, it is vital to raise awareness and encourage others to contribute to healthcare development. Specifically, the youth must be educated regarding this topic to accommodate the plans of Sustainable Development Goals.

High-quality healthcare will allow society to flourish in terms of economy, quality of life, social sustainability, and, most evidently, human health. The best method to achieve this is to first and foremost address healthcare disparities. Health objectives must consider real-life factors such as social, cultural, economic, and geographic barriers through credible research and persevering effort. ⁵ This leads to effective propositions that serve as resolutions to health challenges that threaten the process of making healthcare high-quality. Moreover, achieving high-quality healthcare comes with various benefits and advantages such as expanding health services, increased job opportunities, upgraded conditions for care, prominence of preventative interventions, earlier diagnosis for illnesses, safer and more affordable measures, and the overall emphasis on well-being.

To conclude, it is most relevant, especially in this pandemic, to have a well-functioning healthcare system with the highest quality to create a considerable contribution to the globe's economic growth, development, and industrialization. Lastly, it is crucial in boosting individuals' overall health, whether physical or mental. We must do everything we can to shed light on the importance of healthcare, as it is the first step towards achieving its highest form.
